Description

This collectible four-volume set of The Tomb of Tut-Ankh-Amen was written by Howard Carter and Arthur C. Mace and published by Cassell and Company in London between 1923 and 1933. The set includes three fourth impressions and one first edition copy of Volume 1, all bound in brown publisher cloth with gilt spine lettering and gilt cover decorations. Volume 1 first edition includes a frontispiece, xxiii, 231 pages, 73 plates, and index. The additional Volume 1 includes a frontispiece, xxiii, 231 pages, 79 plates, and index. Volume 2 includes a frontispiece, xxxiv, 277 pages, 88 plates, and index. Volume 3 includes a frontispiece, xvi, 247 pages, 80 plates, and index. Condition is fair to poor. The heads and tails of the spines are bumped and scuffed, corners are scuffed and rubbed, covers show rubbing and ink stains, and page edges have dents, smudges, and some staining. The first edition volume has an ink inscription, and the set includes the “Philip and Phyllis Hill” bookplate. First edition copy is missing plates LXXIV to LXXIX, six plates total.
